Getting Started

I find this whole process immensely frustrating.  I just wanted to sell some stuff on Ebay.  I have several websites so I already knew a lot about HTML and computer systems.  I still had to spend what seemed like a totally unreasonable amount of time getting started.

This becomes more understandable when you realize that you are actually setting up a small business.  Any successful business requires lots of systems to function efficiently.  Many don't have them of course, and their owners make them work somehow.  I find the Franchise model proposed by Michael Gerber in his book "The E-Myth" to be a good way to think about things, and that means setting up systems.

However, don't let all this "Need" talk discourage you from starting.  Many of the "Needs" overlap, so you can take care of several at one time.  In addition, you don't need to have everything in place before you start.

Ebay and the internet are in a constant state of change.  if selling on Ebay is something you want to try, you have to jump in and try.  Buy a few inexpensive things, sell a few small things, and find out if it works for you.

If it does, great.  As your efforts grow, get your activity organized to make efficient use of your time.  If it doesn't work for you, you will have found out without wasting a lot of time or money.
